Welcome to Balewa Inc.

Balewa Inc. was founded at the end of 2005 as an environmental and technical consulting company focusing mainly on industrial challenges in regard to off gas, energy consumption, energy and water use and treatment. The company’s head quarter is located in Liestal, close to a number of well-known chemical companies in the area of Basel, which is in the north-western part of Switzerland. Balewa is one of the leading companies for technical environmental consultation services for the industry in Switzerland. The Balewa team consists of highly skilled and motivated mechanical engineers, process engineers and microbiologists. During their professional career, they have gathered a lot of invaluable experiences mainly in the chemical industry as environmental experts or production engineers. They were head of numerous projects in industrial effluent treatment plants. In addition, Balewa Inc. has a dense network of contacts, like Laboratories for the chemical and /or biological analysis of samples, Teams for on-site analytics or measurement campaigns and Operators of environmental plants (industrial effluent treatment plants, off gas treatment units, sludge incinerators and treatment processes of hazardous waste).

The success factors and the drivers of Balewa’s expert services are

  • A holistic approach focusing to avoiding, minimization and recycling of matter rather than treatment, which leads mostly to end-of pipe solutions
  • Innovative concepts and solutions for industrial effluent and off gas issues
  • A profound chemical, physical, biological and process technological know how
  • A systematic approach based on the analysis of data and measurements of model mass flows on processes, production buildings, production sites, off gas and waste water treatment plants
  • The consequent linkage of ecological with economical criteria
  • A profound operator know-how for environmental infrastructure (off gas units, waste water treatment plants, incinerators).
  • The application of self developed simulation models for incineration processes with integrated treatment steps for the treatment of fumes
  • The application of models to execute energy optimisation projects for identifying savings potential and prioritising projects according to their economic potential
  • Detailed knowledge in regard to the biological degradation potential to eliminate synthetic chemicals in waste water treatment and off gas treatment plants
  • Experience about how to work in industrial sites

Our Services

Modelling and Balancing

Only the one who knows his processes in its entire length is able to make the right decisions. Today it is getting more and more difficult to keep and foster the own process know-how facing the quick changes in organization and personnel. Often it is of great help to possess a comprehensive mass- and energy balance for this purpose. The comprehensive mass- and energy balance also represents an essential tool for optimization of energy demands, waste generation or in case of product production relocation.

Energy optimisation

Operating costs are always in the focus of our environmental consultation services. Energy consumption is generally an important cost driver. A prerequisite for efficient energy use is the detailed knowledge of functions and the actual energy consumptions of mayor machines, apparatus, and energy consuming infrastructure such as boilers or coolers. Balewa supports you to gain transparency and identify savings potentials.

Odour abatement

The emissions of trace amounts of highly odorous compounds cause unpleasant nuisances for operators in the respective production buildings, or for persons in the neighbourhood of sources of odours. Balewa’s strengths are the highly competent chemical analysis of root causes as well as the profound know-how of processes which may be applied for odour abatement such as deodorising process based on a wet chemical treatment, the compost bio-filter, or filters based on activated carbon adsorption.

Incineration technology and energy use

At least the „energetic use“ of matter is tried to be achieved, if recycling of the matter is impossible, Balewa tries to apply sustainable solutions in a holistic sense, and by identifying and assessing economically interesting projects and to realise them together with the client.

Treatment of off gas and fumes

The approach to „avoid, minimize and efficiently treat“ is much more important when dealing with off gas emissions than with effluent issues. Balewa’s strengths are the profound process understanding, the thorough analyses of off gas issues as well as the competence to evaluate and design different types of treatment units for gases and fumes.

Solutions at the source

Intelligent solutions at the source are our preferred options for solving environmental issues, because they allow avoiding or reducing many problems up-front rather than at the “end of the pipe”. Balewa’s strength is the profound understanding and expert knowledge of many of the industrial processes.
